I’m currently living in Utrecht for almost 2 years, and over that time I’ve really enjoyed exploring the city, finding nice places to drink and eat. Especially for young people, there are plenty of places that not only serve food for reasonable prices, but have a great atmosphere and fun vibe, and of course have very tasty food! I thought it would be nice to share some of these places, in case you are visiting the city (which you definitely should!). I’m no culinary expert, so I wouldn’t state these are the absolute best restaurants there are, but these are sure my favourite hotspots (map included)! Yay! It’s december, so time for a christmas decorations! This year, me and my roommate got our first real christmas tree! I’m very exciting about this (since I LOVE christmas), but it also can be quite costly. Luckily, I already have christmas lights in house, so the next step was shopping for decorations & of course, the tree itself! Continue reading “Christmas tree decorating”
Spring is here, and so is my urge to be outside more often! I take every moment I can to enjoy the sun (as it’s still quite rare in the Netherlands) and preferably I take a walk through the city centre of Utrecht or through nature. However, now that I found my new hobby I really don’t want to spend time inside anymore! Over the past few years I’ve been using my dad’s bicycle (and mountain bike) for some exploration of the Dutch country side. However, as I was a poor student, I’ve never dared to get a road bike of my own. What if I wouldn’t use it so much? Then it would be a waste of money. Also, I already played badminton quite often, and I didn’t really have a safe place to store my bike. So I never really got to buy one of my own.
BUT NOW I DID!! :D Continue reading “4 Tips for starting a new sport: Bicycle racing!”
With spring at our doorstep, temperatures rising and flowers starting to bloom, I’m getting super excited to get outside more! And what better way to spend your time outside is by getting into the nature! I’ve come to appreciate nature so much more over the past few years, when I was younger I never wanted to go into the woods, while now I really love it! I feel like it started when I was in Ireland, because it’s perfect to go hiking there (more on Ireland here). Luckily, there are many beautiful opportunities for walking in the Netherlands as well!
It’s been little over half a year now that i’ve graduated from university, but it feels like ages ago. Somehow I feel like life has only started after my graduation. As mentioned before in a previous post, i’ve lived a large amount of time on an auto-pilot mode. Mostly related to my study though, just picking courses, making assignments, studying for exams. I didn’t think much really through but just did what was expected. Luckily, next to my studies I was able to build a vibrant social life: I joined a student association, a badminton association, met people at my studies and maintained high-school friendships. Nothing to complain and I was able to combine all of this pretty well with my study.
But then, it allll ended…. Continue reading “Long-distance friendships: Do’s and Don’ts”
